Settlements and settlers have been a major concern of the occupation since the Palestine-Israel conflict began. The strategy surrounding the illegal declaration and construction of settlements on Palestinian lands is shaped by religious, military, and political motivations. The escalating radicalism within Israeli politics has been paralleled by an increase in settler violence, which has had profound social, psychological, and political impacts on Palestinians. Settlement policies, which blatantly disregard the principles of international law, exacerbate key crises in the Palestinian issue, such as the right of return, the status of Jerusalem, displacement, and occupation. Moreover, settlements serve as outposts for advancing some of Israel’s primary political objectives, including the Judaization of the region, demographic dominance, and annexation policies. Settlements, as manifestations of modern colonialism, are crucial to understanding the anatomy of the occupation in Palestine. By severing the relationship between Palestinian identity, space, and history, settlements remain one of the core factors fueling tensions in the region. &e settler prototype, shaped over time within settlements supported by political and religious authorities, rejects any decision, action, or policy that contradicts its worldview. The aim of this study is to understand settlements and settler politics by outlining the history of settlement policies, their basic motivations and their effects on Palestinians, and to convey the dimensions that settler politics has reached as of 2024.
