Abstract

The United States’ (US) 2024 Israel-Palestine policy has been shaped by its unconditional support for Israel despite increasing international criticism and the growing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Following Hamas’s attack on October 7, 2023, the Biden administration provided military, financial, and diplomatic support that enabled Israel to continue its military operations and occupation efforts. Despite widespread global condemnation of Israel’s actions and rising civilian casualties, the US repeatedly vetoed UN resolutions calling for a ceasefire and continued arms shipments. This support for Israel was partly influenced by domestic political calculations as the country entered the 2024 election year. Both Biden and Trump sought to emphasize their commitment to Israel, with Trump using the crisis to criticize Biden and appeal to pro-Israel voters. Meanwhile, the Biden administration faced demands for policy change from the progressive wing within the Democratic Party. The US policy on Gaza—comprising military aid and diplomatic protection at the UN—has weakened its reputation among international allies and contributed to regional instability. Ultimately, the 2024 election process further solidified bipartisan U.S. support for Israel, indicating that significant policy changes are unlikely regardless of the election outcome.
